OPERATION                CR

Polyethylene, a high-dielectric plastic, has an outstanding dust gathering ability as a result of an inherent capability to generate both positive and negative surface charges in close proximity. Residual surface charges are always present on polyethylene, and the frictional forces of an air stream substantially increase the voltage of these charges. Because no source of electrical energy is required, polyethylene is properly considered self-charging.

Since airborne dust particles are, by nature, either negative or positive, they are both attracted and held by the opposite charges on the filter media. This electrostatic arrestance greatly enhances the normal mechanical action of the filter.

The arrangement of the various components in the Pliotron CR air filter results in excellent filtration performance with minimal pressure drop. This arrangement also provides for effective lint and dust arrestance as well as extensive loading capacity.

The pressure drop characteristics of the pliotron CR filter make it ideal for use in residential warm air furnaces, as well as in commercial air handling “package” systems. Moreover, because of its extremely broad performance range, its loading capacity and its washability, the Pliotron CR is equally well-suited to a wide variety of industrial applications.

It is now generally accepted that the sub-visible particle range (10 microns and lower) is the predominant cause of extended surface soilage as well as dirt-generated electrical circuitry failure. It is impossible to efficiently arrest this portion of the total dirt load with old-fashioned “mechanical-action” filters. Through the unique design and electrostatic action of the Pliotron CR, an “agglomeration chamber” is formed in which these sub-visible particles, highly charged after passing the first two layers of polyethylene mesh, collect rapidly into long, more easily captured “chains” ranging in size from 150 - 250 Microns.

This exclusive feature explains why PLIOTRON air filters are vastly superior to ordinary impingement filters in the arrestance of atmospheric dust. Moreover this extremely broad performance range extends well down into the “fines”, so that the Pliotron CR represents a highly economical alternative to costly, high-efficiency filters for the majority of ventilation system applications.
